Christmas is in the air ….

The mercury is rising -

And for us in the Southern Hemisphere it is- a precursor to summer and Christmas - for those of you who live in snowy climes I guess this feels a trifle odd.

After spending most of my life working in agriculture, nothing smells more like Christmas, to me, than the scent of newly mown hay. It is a smell like no other and for me, the harbinger of the season.

I also have my birthday at Christmas, Boxing Day to be precise, and so this adds to the festivities. My mother and father always made sure I received a special present for my birthday - I can never remember being handed a present and someone saying it was for my birthday and Christmas - thank you Mum and Dad - and this is a tradition carried on in my own family.
